Hi, I use Outlook2007 and tried installing lookout 1.3.0. I replaced the inventures_OLK.dll, lookout.dll on c\programfiles\lookoutsoftware\lookout, also renamed the GAC assemblies by going onto Command prompt as administrator and after all this i get a new error message like this:

PROGRAM ERROR: LOOKOUT COULDNT LOAD OUR PREVIOUS SETTINGS, I WILL USE DEFAULTS INSTEAD. YOU CAN REESTABLISH ANY PREVIOUS SETTINGS BY REVIEWING YOUR OPTIONS. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEND A BUG REPORT (dont worry you will be able to review all the contents before the report is sent)?

YES OR NO.

Either I give YES or NO, outlook closes automatically and i keep getting the same error message. I had no other option than uninstalling lookout.

Can you please help?

Thanks Mike. I was using XP and Office 2007 and got fed up with Microsoft Desktop Search both in terms of irrelevant results and hogging systems resources. I followed the instructions provided and astonishingly it worked perfectly.

I had installed the lookout on outlook 2007 long ago and it was working fine for last one and half year, until today when i received the "Sorry! It looks like another Outlook ...." message.
Don't have any idea why it broke, i didn't install new add-in for that matter. it seems windows update did some charm on it.

anyways, I tired Mike's solution i.e. download patched Dlls and overwrite in lookout directory. Thanks to Mike, lightening fast lookout search is back :)

@lookeen: learn some marketing etiquette. people are smart enough to know a satisfied customer form a goon.

Amazing, last update v1.3 was 5 year ago and people are still using it... it is still the best plugin in the market - it just does the job, nothing more, nothing less !
Thanks.

Frankly, I wouldn't touch Lokeen with a 10 foot pole - Not only is it $50 to be able to use it past its trial period, I am totally annoyed by the fact that very clearly someone at Lokeen is being paid to find any forums where people are talking about Lookout, Xobni, or, Copernic, and then post there as if they were a satisfied user of Lokeen to try and drum up more business. This forum is dedicated to making Lookout work, not to advertising your crummy overpriced alternative.

On to the meat and potatos: Recently my lookout, which I had working after some fiddling with DLLs and interops as discussed here, was completely broken again. Any attempt to index anything at all would result in a crash. The fix? I disabled the Windows Search indexer service and put Outlook in cached exchange mode. I suspect it was the search indexer that was hosing Lookout, and cached exchange mode isn't truly necessary, but I just figured I'd give you all the info. Now lookout is working great once again, at full aggressiveness for indexing, and my life is happy. This is with Outlook 2k7 SBE running on Windows 7 Pro 32 bit edition.. Good luck all y'all, and booooooo Lokeen - when you start charging something more like $20 for a nice trim app like Lookout, I'll think about buying it. Until then kindly STFU on lookout related forums.

I had performed the interop rename procedure before and used Lookout for a year or more fine. After installing Office 2007 Service Pack 2, I go the 'another software has replaced...blah blah "error that prevented lookout from loading. (BTW: if you try to go to the link that lookout posted in the error, the one indicating "topic_id=10" or even the lookout software website for that matter, you are now redirected to Microsft search website. I thought, oh, well, another company swallowed by Microsoft, might as well install the Microsoft Search and deal with it. But then in true Microsoft fashion, that wouldn't install either :O...
I now did the two step procedure above, downloading and overwriting the lookout DLL's with patched versions, and everything works well.

I am just restating everything for anyone who already had Lookout installed.
Thanks for the links, Mike.

I have just reinstalled Lookout 1.3 and every time I try to do a search it
completely rebuilds the database, i.e. I never can actually query.

What am I doing wrong?

I have used it before on this system without this problem(?)

HELP!
